History Is All You Left Me follows Griffin after his first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident. Griffin was always sure that Theo would come back to him one day but now the future he has dreamed up has shattered apart. Griffin spirals into grief. He becomes self destructive and his OCD gets worse. Griffin must try to carry on but what if the only person who can help is Theo's new boyfriend Jackson? I’m not going to lie. I cried 3 times within the first 20 pages of this book. If you need a good cry and a story that will rip your heart out then this is the book for you. Adam Silvera writes amazing queer fiction and this contemporary novel is his saddest in my opinion. And that’s an achievement because he wrote They Both Die at the End. I recommend this book if you want to take a look into grief and what actual OCD looks like or if you just need a good cry. SPOILERS!!! Ok Adam Silvera I really love you and your writing but I also really hate you. You somehow made me cry within the first twenty pages and then you let me live for a little while but then you sent Griffin to California and it’s just all tears from there. You made me root for every romance in this book while simultaneously rooting for everyone to be single. I connected with Griffin in so many ways especially in his more sad and depressing moments. I could see myself in his grief and pain. I fell in love with Theo and no matter how many times the characters told me he was a selfish ass I couldn’t accept it. He was the first love that we all dream about. He meant the world to Griffin and I. I highly respect the choice for everyone to move on in the end and I’m so happy that you leave us with an ending that shows that Griffin will be ok. He is healing. He is getting help for his OCD and he is finally opening himself up again to someone other than his dead ex boyfriend. I think just the ending really made me love the book because even though this book is extremely sad and I’m still crying, you still somehow ended up giving this book about death and grief a happy ending. Thank you for the wonderful read. Only one book left till I’m all caught up with your writing so far!
