Ari and Dante are complete opposites. Dante can swim, Ari can't. Ari gets in fights and Dante stays kind and cheerful. They are complete opposites but as fate draws them together they form an unbreakable bond. They care deeply for each other and as their friendship grows and begins to mold into something new they both must ask themselves what they want from the other. 2.5 stars SPOILERS I get that this book is super awarded and at the time it came out, it's 5 pages of an actual gay relationship was brave but it is 2021 now and this book feels more like queer baiting than queer. The two characters have a pretty normal friendship and its fun at times but they really don't get together and be gay until the end of the book. Now don't get me wrong there are some great aspects to this book like the diverse characters and the amazing quotes but overall I just couldn't get into it. It felt like it had no real plot and as a queer woman myself I couldn't relate to either of the two gay characters or their friendship/romance. I really really wanted to like this book but I came to the last page and closed the book, completely disappointed. Im sorry if you loved it but I just can't get behind a book that made me feel like I was watching a tv show where they make a gay character in the last episode of the series.
